former Iron Angel guitarist Mitsch Meyer, sees itself not merely as a tribute band, but as a worthy continuation of one of the 1980s' most important underground institutions. Following the death of vocalist Dirk Schröder in 2025, Meyer and his band are carrying on the spirit of Iron Angel with genuine passion. Live, classics—such as tracks from their legendary debut *Hellish Crossfire*—come across as raw, fast, and full of energy; exactly what one would expect from one of the early German speed metal bands. The band's current live lineup features Dirk Meyer (vocals), Mitsch Meyer (guitar), Robin Gattnar (guitar), Niki Rathert (bass), and Leo Harling on drums. Iron Angel Legacy combines nostalgic 80s riffs with modern live intensity, creating an atmosphere that bridges the past and a new beginning. In doing so, they impressively prove that some legends never die—they just get louder. Incidentally, their upcoming video was filmed right here on the premises. I can't reveal any more than that. https://time-for-metal.eu/fahrdorf-open-air-vom-25-06-bis-27-06-2026-in-fahrdorf-bei-schleswig/

Mitsch Meyer, guitarist and songwriter during the band’s reunion era 2014–2019, tells us more about it. What was the first band that you were in, Mitsch? When did you begin playing music? I started playing in bands at around twelve years old, but my first real band was WOLFGARD (2004–2012). I wrote the music first and then found the right musicians around it. A fun fact: our logo was created by Sven Strüven of IRON ANGEL, even though I never had the chance to meet him personally. We had a track on a U.S. sampler in 2006, released our album “Nordic Force” in 2009, and our final 4-track EP “540 Gates” came out shortly before we split in 2012. Any favorite metal bands? KISS has always been my number one. After that, I’m deeply into the Bay Area Thrash movement and the classic German Thrash scene of the ’80s. Bands like Slayer, At The Gates, Sentenced — and the list could go on forever. Could you tell us what it was like to play on the IRON ANGEL comeback album in 2018? Preparing for the IRON ANGEL comeback was intense. I played those songs hundreds of times, and during that period I barely listened to any other bands. New ideas just came naturally. Dirk, Didy and I met in our little “studio,” which at that time was basically my caravan, and we kept shaping the songs together. We all felt the potential — especially with Dirk’s unmistakable voice — so we decided to release a true third IRON ANGEL album: “Hellbound.” We teamed up with Mighty Music for a two-album deal. In August 2019, I parted ways with IRON ANGEL. What is the German metal scene like currently? German metal is definitely experiencing a comeback. There are many great young bands on the rise and a lot of new, high-quality festivals popping up all over the country. The scene

remarkable legacy that influenced generations. To preserve this history and keep the group's essence alive, Iron Angel Legacy has emerged—a new lineup officially formed to carry on the work the vocalist helped build. The project was born with the mission of respecting the band's classic identity—characterized by lightning-fast riffs, raw intensity, and the aggressive aesthetic of 1980s German speed metal—while looking toward a future beyond the loss of its historic frontman. Comprising remaining members, "Legacy" seeks to strike a balance between reverence and renewal: keeping alive the songs that shaped the band while simultaneously developing new material that honors the weight of its past. Um comentário: Mitsch Meyer28 de novembro de 2025 às 07:08 Hi my brothers and sisters, Mitsch here! It was a sad time to get informed that my friend Dirk Schröder passed away 😢 He gave me the chance to be IRON ANGEL together with him. From this moment on, it became a very important part of my life to play all over the world and to meet my brothers and sisters of Heavy Metal! Dirk was not only a singer. He was the voice, the spirit, the fire of IRON ANGEL. He stood on stage like a warrior and gave everything he had to the fans. Every scream, every word, every show — pure devotion! ⚡️🔥 Brazil was always something special for us. You welcomed us like family, with open arms and hearts full of metal. The energy, the passion, the love you gave — unforgettable! Dirk felt that. We all did. And we will never forget it. 🇧🇷🤘 Today, we continue the legacy with respect and honor. IRON ANGEL LEGACY is our promise: The fire will burn forever. His spirit lives on in every song. And now, a new chapter begins… We proudly introduce our new vocalist:
